Comparing Thomas Tuchel’s start at Chelsea to Klopp’s start at Liverpool

Thomas Tuchel has made a huge impact at Chelsea – but how does his start at the club compare to Jurgen Klopp’s first few months at Liverpool?

Chelsea were ninth in the Premier League when Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard in January 2021 and Liverpool were 10th when Rodgers took over from Brendan Rodgers in October 2015.

We’ve compared Tuchel’s first 50 games at Chelsea and Klopp’s first 50 games at Liverpool to see who comes out on top.

As the stats show, Tuchel’s Chelsea averaged more points per game, had a higher win rate and a lower loss rate than Klopp’s Liverpool.

The Blues also won the Champions League and the Super Cup in 2021, but Klopp lost the 2016 EFL Cup final and would also lose the Europa League final in his 52nd game in charge.

While Klopp’s side were arguably more entertaining and averaged more goals per game, they also conceded more than double what Tuchel’s side did after 50 games.

Tuchel definitely made the more immediate impact in England, although many would argue that he inherited a much stronger squad.
